Many kids who did not even graduate with honors from college get a graduation party from their parents/relatives. So I guess I wouldn’t be different? I imagined what kind of conversation I’ll have with my mom regarding this graduation party…
Me: Mom, will you throw a graduation party for me?
Mom: Why? That’s just extra spending. And we’ll eat out just the 4 of us (dad, mom, grandma, me)
Me: But I won’t just graduate from any college. I will graduate from the university that’s hard to get in and even harder to get out alive. It’s a remarkable feat for your only daughter who’s had to live 5 years alone and away from home!
Mom: Oh my poor girl. Of course, of course I realize that. Sure, we’ll have a big party for you!
Me: Yeah, so I was thinking… instead of an expensive fiesta for the entire neighborhood to celebrate my graduation why not get me an iPhone 4s / Blackberry Torch / SamsungXHello Kitty phone / shopping spree / out-of-the-country vacation / *insert other luxury stuff here*
Mom: Sure baby, let’s not have the party. And I won’t get you any of those things either.
